Wireless Game Adapter
So here's the deal. You have your video game console hooked up in your bedroom along with a whole bunch of other
stuff. Now you have access to a new big screen HDTV computer home center in the family room and you'd really
love some big screen action. But you dread the thought of untangling all those cables to extract your console
from your bedroom setup and then burrowing through the cables in the family room setup. Unless you've been
living in a cave, you must know you can now go out and get a wireless game adapter to eliminate some of those pesky
wires. Here's how they work.
A wireless game adapter fits onto your video game console's Ehternet port to allow you wireless access to the
Internet so you can blast those bad villains to your heart's content without having to worry about someone tripping
over those wires extending from the console to the computer setup.
Great. But if you're a serious gamer you are undoubtedly a LAN party hound, with a group or maybe
even several groups of other players who want to get in on multi-player action. Not to worry, most wireless
game adapters available today let you do this without even needing to add a wirless router to the mix. Simply
attach the same make and model wireless game adapter to each console in the LAN (Local Area Network) and you're
good to go. If you're worried about transporting these devices, forget about it. They are compact and
small enough to allow you to simply stick them in your laptop carrying case and take them with you to the LAN Party
or Gaming Event of your choice. You can lay them flat or use the stand they include to place the wireless
game adapter vertically. To add even more functionality, most wireless game adapters have a manual switch you
can flip to go back and worth between Internet gaming and LAN gaiming.
Some major gaming systems offer dedicated wireless game adapters. Microsoft's X-Box and both Nintendo's
Wii and Gameboy offer adapters that work only with their consoles. But some of the more highly rated wireless
game adapters come from the "generic" manufacturers. Check the Internet for reviews and price comparisons on
models from NetGear, LinkSys, and TrendNet. If you're the type that likes to "touch and feel" a product
before you buy, check out your favorite computer electronics retailer. Be aware that the selection in these
"brick and mortar" locations is pretty limited. You're more likey to find a dedicated X-Box or Wii wireless
game adapter than you are to find a top model from LinkSys, NetGear, or TrendNet Good luck with your games!
